COLD crayons are softer for use in temperatures below 16^oC.  MILD crayons are for temperatures warmer than this.  The usable life of the crayon, the amount of mark desired and duration of the mark should be considered when choosing between MILD and COLD.

Each crayon will generally last at least two weeks but is affected by temperature and ram activity.

Crayon marking is an extremely useful management tool which can be used in the following ways to track; parentage, service dates and cycle identification.
